‘Blood On Snow’: Pilou Asbæk Joins Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Benedict Cumberbatch, & Eva Green In Crime Thriller From Cary Fukunaga

Director Cary Joji Fukunaga is behind the new contract killer movie “Blood On The Snow,” and the cast is already stacked with Aaron Taylor-Johnson (“28 Years Later”), Benedict Cumberbatch (“The Roses”), Eva Green (“The Three Musketeers”), Emma Laird (“The Brutualist”), and Ben Mendelsohn (“Andor”) on the call sheet, with another solid addition announced.

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Danish actor Pilou Asbæk has taken a role in the crime thriller based on the Jo Nesbo (“The Snowman”) Oslo-set novel of the same name. Screenwriter Ben Power co-wrote the script alongside the famed Norwegian author, adapting his own work.

An official logline of the original novel via Amazon:

From the internationally acclaimed author of the Harry Hole novels—a fast, tight, darkly lyrical stand-alone novel that has at its center the perfectly sympathetic antihero: an Oslo contract killer who draws us into an unexpected meditation on death and love. This is the story of Olav: an extremely talented “fixer” for one of Oslo’s most powerful crime bosses. But Olav is also an unusually complicated fixer. He has a capacity for love that is as far-reaching as is his gift for murder. He is our straightforward, calm-in-the-face-of-crisis narrator with a storyteller’s hypnotic knack for fantasy. He has an “innate talent for subordination,” but running through his veins is a “virus” born of the power over life and death. And while his latest job puts him at the pinnacle of his trade, it may be mutating into his greatest mistake.

“Being part of Blood on Snow has been an incredible experience,” Asbæk said in an official statement. “The team, cast, and crew are exceptional, and I’m proud to be involved in a project that has so much heart. I can’t wait for audiences to see it.”

Asbæk is likely best known to American audiences for his ruthless character from HBO‘s “Game of Thrones,” Apple‘s epic sci-fi series “Foundation,” Bad Robot‘s WWII zombie pic “Overlord,” Scarlett Johansson‘s live-action “Ghost In The Shell” movie, and had taken a supporting part in Michael B. Jordan‘s “The Thomas Crown Affair” remake at Amazon MGM Studios.

Fukunaga is coming off Apple’s WWII pilot miniseries “Masters of Air,” the Idris Elba-led child soldier drama “Beasts of No Nation,” and helped wrap up the tenure of Daniel Craig as James Bond with “No Time to Die” after taking the film’s reins from Danny Boyle.

Production on “Blood On The Snow” kicked off in Latvia earlier in the year. As Cumberbatch had previously replaced “MobLand” actor Tom Hardy on the project after some scheduling issues led to his exit with Taylor-Johnson is expected to play the main role of criminal syndicate “fixer” Olav in “Blood On The Snow.”
