Bryan Singer Celebrates 'Bohemian Rhapsody' On Instagram *Finally* Revealing Who Directed The Film

If you’re a film fan that doesn’t follow all the hot gossip, and just like to focus on the films, there’s a chance that you aren’t aware of who directed the Golden Globe Best Picture (Drama) winner “Bohemian Rhapsody.” You see, if you watched the telecast, and listened to the speeches from Best Actor Rami Malek and the producers who accepted awards last night, one name was conspicuously missing – director Bryan Singer. That’s okay though, because Singer took it upon himself to remind the world who was behind the camera.

Celebrating the surprise win for the Freddy Mercury biopic last night, Singer posted a picture on Instagram from the set of the film. But what seems to be the purpose of the picture isn’t to share some fond memory he had behind the scenes (honestly, from what we’ve heard, there might not have been many). Instead, what Singer shared is a picture of him sitting in his director’s chair (back to the camera) with Rami Malek and others in the background. But make no mistake, the purpose of the picture is the word written on the aforementioned chair – “director.”

As you probably already know, the drama behind the scenes on “Bohemian Rhapsody” has become the stuff of legends. There were rumors and reports of Malek and Singer having epic disagreements, leading to the director reportedly throwing equipment around. Adding to the drama is what was being described as erratic behavior, with Singer allegedly coming to set late, unprepared, or just missing for days at a time.

Of course, Fox forced Singer off the production after a highly-publicized issue where the director said his mother was ill. Dexter Fletcher was brought in to finish out the shoot and the post-production effort, with Malek and the rest publicly thanking him for his work. But last night, there were no thanks for Bryan Singer, as the bulk of the speeches went to other cast and crew, as well as the members of Queen.

But as we’ve shown in the past, Bryan Singer is nothing if not a bit defiant and has always been one of his biggest fans, so it’s pretty expected that he’d make sure the world knows that he was attached to the film, even if the production turned out to be a massive black eye on his career.

Here’s the Instagram post, as well as a tweet showing that Singer does have at least one public figure that congratulated him – Brett Ratner (oof):
