Next month will be the 76th Berlinale (Berlin International Film Festival), and the full lineup of projects screening has been revealed. As they’ve assembled a list of 22 films for the main Competition, the festival will take place from February 12 to 22.
Other sections at the festival featuring a slew of titles include Berlinale Special Gala, Berlinale Special Series, Berlinale Special Midnight, Berlinale Special Presentation, Perspectives, Panorama, Panorama Dokumente, Generation, Berlinale Shorts, Forum/Forum Special, Forum Expanded, Retrospective, Berlinale Classics, and finally Teddy 40.
Some of those highlighted projects in competition include Karim Aïnouz‘s “Rosebush Pruning” with an impressive cast that features Callum Turner, Riley Keough, Jamie Bell, Lukas Gage, Elena Anaya, Tracy Letts, Elle Fanning, and Pamela Anderson.

An official synopsis for “Rosebush Pruning”: In an opulent villa underneath the Catalonian sun, American siblings Jack, Ed, Anna, and Robert wallow in isolation and their inherited fortune, eschewing the demands of their blind father, and seeking love and validation through each other and their latest designer clothes. When Jack, the eldest brother and linchpin of this family, announces he is moving in with his girlfriend, Martha, blood ties are severed, and Ed starts to uncover the truth surrounding their mother’s death. Generational lies begin to unravel, and the fabric of this family slowly begins to disintegrate.

Sandra Hüller is leading Markus Schleinzer‘s “Rose“: Amidst the turmoil of the Thirty Years´ War, somewhere in Germany, a mysterious soldier appears in a secluded Protestant village. Small and quiet, his face disfigured by a scar, this stranger declares himself the heir of a long-abandoned farmstead and produces a document to support his claim to the suspicious villagers. With time, he overcomes their doubts and shows himself to be a hard-working, God-fearing man, becoming part of the community in a quest for acceptance made up of impossible deceit. The true and twisted tale of a deceiver of land and folk, who, defying her birth as a woman, comported herself as a man and committed many a wicked deed.

Amy Adams also toplines Kornel Mundruczó‘s “At The Sea“: Follows the life of Laura after a long rehabilitation, as she returns to her family at their beach holiday home, where she has to readjust to the complicated life she left behind. Now she is forced to face the following next chapter of her life without the career that gave her fame, fortune, and, most importantly, identity.

Debuting first at Sundance, Channing Tatum and Gemma Chan will star in Beth de Araújo‘s “Josephine“: After 8-year-old Josephine accidentally witnesses a crime in Golden Gate Park, she acts out in search of a way to regain control of her safety, while adults are helpless to console her.
