Cooper Hoffman Denies Cyclops Casting Rumors For ‘X-Men’ Reboot: “Not Going To Be Me…S*** Spreads”

There have been a slew of would-be casting rumors concerning Marvel Studios and Jake Schreier‘s hard reboot of the “X-Men” franchise, as The Playlist recently talked with some of those hopefuls, such as Sophie Thatcher and Charles Melton, during their promotion for “Her Private Hell.” Another one of those names has now commented on the never-ending rumor mill, specifically Cooper Hoffman, who has been allegedly eyed to play the new Scott Summers, aka Cyclops, taking up the role from James Marsden (reprising the part in “Avengers: Doomsday“) and “First Class” era actor Tye Sheridan (who ended up playing the part in two installments).

During a recent chat with Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet of his new movie “I Want Your Sex,” Hoffman was directly asked by the outlet about playing Cyclops for the MCU, and his answer was pretty dang blunt: “Not going to be me.”

Hoffman also added a cherry on the top of his denial while keeping the door open to the idea, “But like, I love the X-Men, and like, not any reason, it’s just not. I don’t know where this came from. S*** spreads! [laughs].” When asked if he would be interested in playing the superhero part despite the rumblings being untrue (according to him), “Of course, but they [don’t want me]. I wish they did! I wish [fans] had more of a say; I love X-Men. I’ve been watching it since I was a kid; it would be such an honor.”

Speaking of Marvel, Hoffman also talked to FilmUpdates about going out for celebratory drinks with his “The Long Walk” co-star, David Jonsson, after he landed the part of Prince T’Challa II in Ryan Coogler’s “Black Panther III.”

Cyclops would be an interesting role for an actor, even more so given that Marvel Studios can now do all the cosmic stuff connected to the franchise that 20th Century Fox was obviously too scared to cover due to budget restraints those films had back in the day. Scott’s estranged father, Christopher Summers, just happens to be a badass space pirate named Corsair (think a more confident and charming version of Star-Lord), who is the leader of the off-world team The Starjammers, which could be perfect fodder in an attempt to flesh out the Sh’air Empire at the same time (a HUGE roster of alien characters that Marvel now has access to for the MCU).
