Got a Tip?

David Fincher To Produce ‘IOU,’ The Next Effort From ‘Mean Creek’ Director Jacob Aaron Estes

nullDavid Fincher doesn't produce very often, so you can bet if he's throwing his weight behind something, he believes in it. To date, Fincher has put his name on those BMW ads in the early '00s directed by folks like Joe Carnahan and John Frankenheimer, Catherine Hardwicke's "Lords Of Dogtown" and, oddly, the Brittany Murphy vehicle "Love And Other Disasters" (we're sure there's a story there). But next is a project that certainly sounds intriguing.

Jacob Aaron Estes, the helmer behind the taut little thriller "Mean Creek" and the Tobey Maguire and Elizabeth Banks starring dark comedy "The Details" (more on that in a second), is prepping his next effort "IOU" which has Fincher lending his producing powers, with Media Rights Capital financing (they are also behind Fincher's "House Of Cards"). What's it all about? Your guess is about as good as ours, because the plot of the Michael Arlen Ross ("Turistas") penned thriller is being kept under wraps.

And oh yeah, "The Details." The film was picked up out of Sundance way back in 2011 by the Weinsteins for a mind-boggling $8 million, but once the excitement died down and they actually looked at the movie it seems they didn't know what to do with it. Reviews weren't that enthusiastic out of Park City for the dark comedy about a cheating doctor and his raccoon infestation, and the Weinsteins haven't done anything with it. However, THR says the movie will see a fall release through their VOD shingle Radius, so there's that. We thought the film boasted some great performances, but was ultimately a bit too all over the place tonally and structurally, but perhaps with this long stretch of time, Estes has been given the chance go in and make some tweaks.

As for "IOU" production is slated to begin in January.
