David Fincher's HBO Show 'Utopia' Gets Series Order, 'Gone Girl' Author Gillian Flynn On Board

It would appear that David Fincher and “Gone Girl” author Gillian Flynn have quite a thing going on. As you know, the author wrote a brand-new ending for Fincher’s adaptation of her bestselling book and it looks like he’s eager for them to work some more magic together.

Last summer, word emerged that Fincher was eyeing producing an American remake of the Channel 4 series “Utopia” for HBO, and lo-and-behold, it’s going foward. Variety confirms that Fincher is on aboard, with the show already snapping up a series order, while Flynn has joined the project too, as a producer. The thriller follows a group of people who have their hands on a cult graphic novel called “The Utopia Experiments” that seems to have predicted no shortage of disasters. An organization only known as The Network tries to hunt them down as the group tries to prevent the next disaster predicted in the pages of the manuscript from happening.

High-concept stuff, and with Fincher signed on to direct the pilot, consider us intrigued. No word yet on when production might begin, but we’d reckon Fincher and Flynn won’t be putting their full attention on “Utopia” until “Gone Girl” is in the can.
