'Deadpool 2' Writers Talk About Cut Post-Credits Scene Featuring Chris Evans

Movie audiences have been trained to watch the credits at the end of superhero films. Marvel Studios has popularized the art of the mysterious, yet amusing, post-credits stinger. And if there’s any film that’s going to take that idea and run with it, it’s going to be “Deadpool 2.” And according to the writers, they had one idea for a post-credits scene that would have definitely had the crowd erupt.

In a recent interview with UPROXX, Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, co-writers for “Deadpool 2,” were asked if there were any post-credits scenes that didn’t actually make it in the film. As we covered previously, there was one controversial scene that hit the cutting room floor, but the one that they really wanted to do involved a special appearance by one of the most famous superhero actors in the world – Chris Evans.

“There were different codas kicked around. There were more X-Force interviews that were talked about. One was Chris Evans as Human Torch,” revealed Wernick.

As you may already know, Chris Evans is no stranger to superhero films. Before he donned the red, white, and blue in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Captain America, Evans slummed it over at Fox, starring in two subpar “Fantastic Four” films as Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch. While the films were garbage, most fans can agree that Evans was actually pretty great as Torch.

However, it doesn’t appear that the filmmakers involved with “Deadpool 2” ever got to filming the scene. Not because Evans was hesitant, though.

When asked if they approached the actor about the cameo, Reese said, “No, no, we never got that far. Someone had the idea we actually did and we thought that was better. But we definitely had a lot more X-Force interviews with bizarre, random people coming in to interview.”

Speaking of bizarre and random, the marketing team at Fox is really going all out for “Deadpool 2.” With the film’s tongue-in-cheek, meta-style humor so prevalent in the film, someone at Fox had a genius idea on how to promote the film. Twitter users have been posting photos of what appears to be a promotion between “Deadpool 2” and Walmart, where the character of Deadpool is photoshopped onto the covers for some random films.

Obvious choices like “Logan” and various “X-Men” films are given the Deadpool treatment, but that’s not all. Classics like “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly” and “The Terminator” also have special covers recognizing the superhero. Plus, now you have a reason to buy “My Cousin Vinny,” “Speed,” and “Edward Scissorhands,” since they too have new Deadpool covers.
