‘Deadpool’ Creator Says Josh Brolin Is “Itching To Be Cable Again” In The MCU Despite His Role As Thanos

The deal between Disney and Fox, which resulted in the Mouse House purchasing the latter studio, was completed more than a year ago. And in that time, superhero film fans have been desperate to see any information about how Marvel Studios would integrate the X-Men characters, including Deadpool. Or, in a more general sense, will Marvel Studios even bother trying to integrate the R-rated “Deadpool” franchise into its kid-friendly series? One of the franchise’s stars, Josh Brolin, sure does hope it happens…and soon.

Speaking to Comicbook.com, Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld, who is pretty involved with the actors and filmmakers in the ‘X-Men’ spin-off franchise, spoke about how Josh Brolin is anxious to return to the big screen as the Merc with a Mouth’s newest pal, Cable.

“I’m going to tell your viewers…Josh wants to be Cable again sooner than later,” Liefeld said. “He is itching to be Cable again. He loved being Cable. He told me he understands how beloved his role as Thanos is, but he doesn’t look completely like Josh Brolin.”

He added, “These are Josh Brolin’s own words telling me, Rob Liefeld. He told me, ‘Rob when I appeared as Cable in “Deadpool 2,” my phones rang off the hook.’ It changed everything for him and obviously Josh is gonna get some career lifetime achievement award at some point. The guy is just one of our greatest actors.”

As mentioned, Brolin is probably best known as the man behind Thanos. However, considering that character is 100% CGI and just uses the voice and mannerisms of Brolin, there’s the option to continue to use the actor as Cable if Marvel Studios does another “Deadpool” film or the long-in-development “X-Force.” Of course, that leads to the big issue—we really don’t have any idea how Kevin Feige and the folks at Marvel are going to go about including the mutant heroes into the existing MCU. So, even if Brolin does want to return as Cable, there might not be a spot for him in the MCU.

We’ll just have to wait and see. Until then, you can always just watch “Deadpool 2” again. What else are you doing? We’re all stuck at home anyway.
