Dominque Jackson turns a Pose and breaks down the Ballroom scene

You know you’ve lived a life when the ballroom community bestows the title of “Iconic” on you.  And, trust, Dominque Jackson more than earned that accolade.  The model, activist and, now, actress has made a splash on FX’s “Pose” as Elektra Abundance, the mother of the House of Abundance (for most of a season at least) and a fierce competitor on the runway.  It was Jackson’s first real acting gig and she stole scene after scene during the program’s inaugural season.  Now, with the second season debuting on June 11th, we’re happy to report Elektra’s storyline has expanded and Jackson’s talents are flourishing.

When Jackson as down as a guest of the Four Quadrant podcast, however, she had no idea what was in store for the show’s intimidating diva.  It was just a few hours before a Paleyfest Q&A with the cast and crew and she was still waiting for scripts.  But there was a lot to discuss about the first season, how “Pose” can affect the popularity of the ballroom scene, her thoughts on Elektra’s future and the continuing battle for the rights of the trans community.  Inspiration isn’t a word I use lightly, but if you aren’t inspired listening to Jackson tell her story you may want to make an appointment with your doctor because you probably don’t have a pulse.
