Donald Glover Describes His Ideal Lando Calrissian 'Star Wars' Spin-Off As "'Frasier' In Space"

Donald Glover has been having quite the successful few months. While hosting an episode of “Saturday Night Live,” the artist released a powerful new song and video, “This is America.”  Next, Glover is traveling the galaxy far, far away in “Solo: A Star Wars Story.” Now, with rumors swirling around that Lando Calrissian is one of the characters primed for a spin-off film of his own, Donald Glover has a few ideas about what that film could look like.

Sharing with Entertainment Weekly the actor said, “It would be cool to see, like, ‘Frasier in Space— like, a high-end guy in space. All of these characters are very specific and they have very specific points of view, so it’s always going to be fun to see them traveling around to a planet that is the opposite of what they’re used to…. And all of that seems like it would be fun to write, for sure. But it also is nice to not have to write that. It’s also nice to just, you know, show up in a cape and get pointed in the right direction.”

Lucasfilm and Disney have yet to make any real plans on the matter. Still, it’s very cool to see Glover’s interest in more “Star Wars” stories alive and well, even after the recent behind-the-scenes drama. Audiences would, more than likely, be treated to a whole new part of the galaxy, in a movie focused on Lando. There’s a lot to work with in the “Star Wars” universe. It’s constantly changing and evolving with new spins on the classic trilogy. The expansive nature of the universe renders endless possibilities.

So, why not “Frasier” in space?
