Hot off the international success of "Edge Of Tomorrow," Doug Liman is looking abroad for another potential hit, this time as a producer. Liman, along with Dave Bartis ("Covert Affairs") and Gene Klein ("Suits"), will be adapting the Danish TV hit "The Legacy" for the American small screen. The show "follows the four children of an internationally renowned artist who dies, leaving them to divide her estate. Even though his name alone drummed up controversy and the box office for "Ender’s Game" didn’t seem to prompt the franchise everyone involved was going for, that won’t stop another Orson Scott Card story from heading to the big screen. Yaron Zilberman is writing and directing an adaptation of Card’s "Unaccompanied Sonata"—which will just be called "Sonata"—and like the filmmaker’s previous film "A Late Quartet," this one involves the music world although with a "Twilight Zone"-y twist. The story follows a "child who has been brought up to be a musical prodigy, and who is kept away from other musical influences to keep his creative expressions pure. Raised alone in a cabin by servants, he spends his days toiling on a complicated musical instrument, as he’s kept from listening to the works of others. Finally, he gains exposure to the works of Bach, and when discovered by a ‘watcher,’ the man is torn away from his lifelong composition and barred from making music ever again." Sounds like a genre heartbreaker, so one to keep an eye on. [Deadline]
It has been a bit of a rough ride for Karyn Kusama. After breaking out with "Girlfight," she made the leap to Hollywood blockbuster with the misfire "Aeon Flux," and that was then followed by the horror/comedy flop "Jennifer’s Body." But Kusama doesn’t know quit and in fact she’s just wrapped on her next movie, "The Invitation." It stars Logan Marshall-Green, Michiel Huisman, Emayatzy Corinealdi, Tammy Blanchard, Lindsay Burdge, and John Carroll Lynch, and follows "a haunted man attending a dinner party at the house he once called home who becomes gripped with paranoia that his ex-wife and her new husband are harboring an insidious agenda."
