Epic International Trailer, First Clip And New Images For Martin Scorsese's 'Silence'

Even the great Martin Scorsese had to make sacrifices to see his long developing passion project “Silence” finally get put into production. We heard earlier this year that everybody involved essentially worked for next to nothing, and speaking with Yahoo!, star Liam Neeson confirms that there was little that was particularly glamorous about making the movie.

“It wasn’t [a difficult decision to make], certainly for me, I can’t speak for the other actors,” Neeson said. “[‘Silence’] was made for a certain budget… to the layman it might sound like an absolute fortune… but it was a pittance really. But we all worked for scale, I don’t think Martin [Scorsese] took a salary at all.”

Nonetheless, Neeson along with Adam Driver and Andrew Garfield all committed to the film, which tells of missionaries in the 17th century who are persecuted for practicing their faith in Japan. It’s a story that grapples deeply with religious conviction, and in the film’s first clip from Variety, those themes are brought right to the fore.

“Silence” opens on December 23rd. Check out the latest international trailer, the clip, plus new images from the film below.
