Director Andrew Haigh and critic David Rooney recently sat down for a 29-minute chat about "45 Years." Starring Charlotte Rampling and Tom Courtenay, the drama details a marriage that’s thrown into turmoil when a long-buried secret from the past resurfaces. It’s powerful stuff, and Haigh details the genesis of the film, the power of Rampling’s performance, and much more.
"Part of the reason we chose ’45 Years’ for our Contenders series this year is that it provides a singular and transformative look at a long term relationship," said Rajendra Roy, Chief Film Curator at MoMA. "The attention around both Charlotte and Tom is well deserved for carrying the emotional weight of an entire relationship, but it is Andrew Haigh’s filmmaking that delivers their story so honestly to audiences. We were thrilled to have Andrew in attendance for this fascinating Q&A, as he discusses the film as a companion to his earlier work ‘Weekend‘ and his investment in showcasing intimacy and relationships in new cinematic ways."
