Following two highly acclaimed films, "Carlos" and "Summer Hours," excitement is high for French auteur Olivier Assayas' next directorial effort, "Something In The Air," a politically-charged, loosely autobiographical coming-of-age drama that follows an 18-year-old man reacting to the social change of the late '60s in Europe.
Details on the project other than that logline are scarce, but we now have the first look at the film's newcomer lead, Clement Metayer, alongside Lola Creton, who starred in Mia Hansen-Love's "Goodbye, First Love." Lensing took place across France, Italy and the U.K. with the film to be predominantly in French, but with English and Italian dialogue also featured. Here's a slightly more detailed synopsis:
Set in the early 1970s, Gilles (Metayer) is a high school student in Paris, swept up in the political fever of the time. Yet his real dream is to paint and make films, something that his friends and even his girlfriend (Creton) cannot understand. For them, politics is everything: the social struggle all-consuming. But Gilles gradually becomes more comfortable with his life choices and learns to feel at ease in this new society.
