Got a Tip?

Futuristic Robin Hood Movie Getting Rewrite By ‘Turistas’ Scribe Michael Ross

Not To Be Confused With The Wachowskis ‘Hood’

So yeah, in case you haven’t realized, fairy tales are a big deal these days. Next year alone will see two Snow White movies, “Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters” and “Jack the Giant Killer” all arriving at a multiplex near you, and yes, Hollywood has more on the way.

While this fad may all seem somewhat new, at least over on the Warner Bros. lot they’ve been tinkering around with fairy tales for a while now. Back in the summer of 2009, the studio tasked Jason Hall to write a script that would reboot the familiar story of Robin Hood in a future dystopian London and center on a band of thieves whose activities restore hope to the city’s embattled population. Danish commercial director Nicolai Fuglsig — best known for that Sony Bravia ad with all the bouncing balls (see below) was attached to direct — and then nothing was heard about it again. Earlier this year, The Wachowskis were reported to have set their own version of Robin Hood titled “Hood” over at WB with Will Smith being eyed as a tentative star but while that duo get busy on “Cloud Atlas” this fall, the studio is wasting no time getting some iteration of the story moving.

Turistas” writer Michael Ross has now been tapped to rewrite the movie after gaining some heat for recently turning out an adaptation of the video game “Just Cause.” Can’t say his hire really affects how we feel about this project either way, but we’re still wondering why Robin Hood needs to be set in futuristic London. At the very least, we hope they have a clever idea for his bow and arrow.
