George Miller's 'Three Thousand Years Of Longing' In Production Now & With Planned 2021 Release

George Miller has taken some well-deserved time away from films since the release of his Oscar-winning feature, “Mad Max: Fury Road.” But now, not only is he prepping work for a ‘Fury Road’ prequel titled “Furiosa,” with Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth aboard, he’s already apparently deep into production on the long-awaited feature, “Three Thousand Years of Longing.”

According to Deadline, not only has production already begun on “Three-Thousand Years of Longing,” but Miller is almost halfway done. The film stars Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba. “Three Thousand Years of Longing” is said to be a fantasy-romance-drama that follows the story of two people over a very long stretch of time. Other than that, who knows what to expect? Miller has previously described the film as “Anti-Mad Max.” Filming was supposed to begin earlier this year, but COVID had other plans.

While the plot details and specifics are being kept very much under wraps, Miller’s long-time producing partner, Doug Mitchell, did say that the sets for the new film are “some of the most spectacular I’ve ever seen.” Considering he worked with Miller on “Mad Max: Fury Road,” that’s saying something, for sure. And obviously, since the film does cover 3,000 years, there are plenty of ways that film fans can be wowed over the course of the story.

As for when we might see “Three Thousand Years of Longing,” the good news is that it’s looking like a fall 2021 release is going to happen. The crew is already 20 days into the planned two-month production, and even when you take into consideration the break for Christmas, they’re still hoping to deliver the finished product by September 2021. So, get ready for some new George Miller awesomeness in less than a year.
