'French Exit' Trailer: Michelle Pfeiffer & Lucas Hedges Are Privileged Socialites Starting Anew In Paris

Has there ever been a time when Michelle Pfeiffer was anything less than amazing? Over her decades-long career, she’s done everything from legendary crime dramas (“Scarface“) to superhero films (“Batman Returns” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp“) without ever missing a beat. And now, she’s giving what might be her best performance in a new dark comedy, “French Exit.”

As seen in the trailer for “French Exit,” Pfeiffer stars as a privileged socialite that sees all of her money disappear. So, what’s a formerly rich woman to do? Naturally, she moves into her friend’s luxurious apartment in Paris with her grown son (Lucas Hedges) and tries to build a new life by actually being a good person that doesn’t have money to fall back on.

Pfeiffer and Hedges star in the film, but they are joined by Imogen Poots, Danielle Macdonald, and Tracey Letts. “French Exit” is directed by Azazel Jacobs, who most recently released the feature film, “The Lovers,” in 2017.

“French Exit” debuted at this year’s New York Film Festival (you can read our review here) and will eventually arrive in theaters on February 12, 2021.

Here’s the synopsis:

“My plan was to die before the money ran out,” says 60-year-old penniless Manhattan socialite Frances Price (Michelle Pfeiffer), but things didn’t go as planned. Her husband Franklin has been dead for 12 years and with his vast inheritance gone, she cashes in the last of her possessions and resolves to live out her twilight days anonymously in a borrowed apartment in Paris, accompanied by her directionless son Malcolm (Lucas Hedges) and a cat named Small Frank—who may or may not embody the spirit of Frances’s dead husband.
