'Green Book' Trailer: Viggo Mortensen & Mahershala Ali Take A Tour Of Pre-Civil Rights Deep South

Actors Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali could team up for just about any type of film and we’d be there to watch it. Ali is probably best known for his Oscar-winning performance in “Moonlight,” while Mortensen has landed two Oscar nominations for films “Captain Fantastic” and “Eastern Promises.” Without a doubt, these two are some of the best actors in the game right now. And thankfully, their team up looks to be in a pretty great film, “Green Book.”

In the first trailer for the film, viewers learn the basic premise for the film. The true story follows Ali, who plays a well-respected musician, Tony Vallelonga, that is embarking on a tour of the Deep South. Of course, being a Black man during the early-‘60s and traveling through some of the most racist areas requires him to get a special type of driver/bodyguard. Enter Viggo Mortensen. He plays the rough-around-the-edges muscle type that protects Ali, and as you might expect in a film like this, he learns a lot from the musician he is guarding.

“Green Book” doesn’t look like its going to bring something revolutionary to cinema, but it just looks like a well-shot, well-written film starring two of the best actors around in a story that is sure to draw a crowd. It wouldn’t be surprising if this film get’s some prime festival slots coming up in the next month, before potential awards buzz later this year.

“Green Book” is directed by Peter Farrelly, who is probably best known for his work outside of the drama genre with films like “Dumb and Dumber,” “There’s Something About Mary,” and “Shallow Hal.” All three of those films saw Peter team with his brother Bobby and share director credit. This looks to be Peter Farrelly’s first film on his own. The script for “Green Book” is written by Farrelly, Brian Hayes Currie, and Tony Vallelonga’s son Nick Vallelonga.

“Green Book” will arrive in theaters on November 21.
