‘Heart Of Stone’: Gal Gadot Wanted To Create A New Female Action Hero After Watching ‘Bond,’ ‘Mission: Impossible’ & ‘Bourne’ Films

No, she’s likely not returning as Wonder Woman in future DC Studios productions. And while she apparently is coming back to the “Fast & Furious” world, she’s always going to play second (or fifth) fiddle behind Vin Diesel. So, it appears Gal Gadot is hoping that her new film, “Heart of Stone,” will help her launch a new franchise based around a female action hero.

Speaking to Empire, while promoting the release of her new Netflix spy movie, “Heart of Stone,” Gal Gadot talked about the influences she had growing up that inspired her to try to carve out a place for a new type of female action protagonist.

“I realized that there was an audience for a female action protagonist,” Gadot explained. “I grew up watching ‘Bond,’ and ‘Mission,’ and ‘Bourne.’ I wanted to create a really strong, female-driven action movie that is for everybody, not a male story that’s been done many times already.”

Obviously, this isn’t the first time an A-list actress has attempted to launch a new female-driven action franchise. We’ve seen Angelina Jolie try it with “Salt.” Let’s not forget Charlize Theron in “Atomic Blonde.” Recently, we also saw Jessica Chastain attempt to launch an all-female ensemble action franchise with “The 355.” Over the years, we’ve seen this attempted time after time, with more misses than hits. But hey, Gal Gadot has plenty of action experience under her belt already, so perhaps she can buck the trend.

In addition to “Wonder Woman” and the ‘Fast’ films, Gadot has flexed her action muscles with films like “Red Notice,” “Triple 9,” and “Criminal.” Plus, there is clear proof that Netflix audiences love her with the success of “Red Notice.”

So, will “Heart of Stone” turn into the next great female-led spy franchise? We’ll find out when the film debuts on Netflix on August 11.
