‘Huesera: The Bone Woman’ Trailer: Supernatural Mexican Horror Film From Michelle Garza Cervera Creeps Into Theaters This February

Pregnancy is often a complicated time for women. A sense of giddy anticipation and hope, but also anxiety and worry, and sometimes even dread. It can be beautiful, yet frightening. And what if, on top of all the emotions, one had to endure a pregnancy while evading the trappings of an evil spirit? Such is the plot of “Huesera: The Bone Woman,” a supernatural horror film from promising young director Michelle Garza Cervera.

The plot further describes it as “the story of Valeria, a young woman expecting her first child, who becomes cursed by a sinister entity. Plunged into a terrifying and dangerous world, a group of witches emerges as her only hope for safety and salvation, but not without grave risk.”

The supernatural Mexican horror feature is led by Natalia Solián (Carlos Eichelmann Kaiser’s Venice selection “Zapatos Rojos”) as Valeria, a young woman expecting her first child who becomes cursed by a sinister entity. The film also stars Alfonso Dosal (Netflix’s “Narcos: Mexico”), Mayra Batalla (“Prayers For The Stolen” ), Mercedes Hernández (“Identifying Features”), Aída López (“Capadocia”), and Martha Claudia Moreno.

The release of “Huesera: The Bone Woman” is not without anticipation. The film made a splash at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival, winning Best New Narrative Director and the Nora Ephron Award. ‘Huesera’ is the debut feature film from Cervera, a Mexico City-based director who earned her MFA in Film Directing at Goldsmiths, University of London. Before bursting onto the scene at Tribeca last year, her short films have screened at worldwide film festivals.

“Huesera: The Bone Woman” is set to open exclusively in theaters on February 10, with a VOD release on February 16, courtesy of XYZ Films. The theatrical/VOD run will be followed by a streaming release on Shudder later this year.
