Musicians Sturgill Simpson & Jason Isbell, Along With Acclaimed Production Designer Jack Fisk, Join Scorsese's 'Flower Moon'

We are fast approaching the production start date for Martin Scorsese’s next feature, the big-budget crime drama, “Killers of the Flower Moon.” And while any film with Scorsese behind the camera is worthy of getting excited about, the cast and crew he is putting together for ‘Killers’ are shaping up to be something truly special. And that’s saying something considering his previous film was “The Irishman.”

We already know the film is going to star Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Jesse Plemons. But according to Apple Studios, the film is adding William Belleau, Louis Cancelmi, Jason Isbell, and Sturgill Simpson to the growing cast of the true-crime drama. “Killers of the Flower Moon” is based on the true story of a series of murders that took place in Osage County, Oklahoma in the early 1920s, which led to the creation of the FBI.

While Belleau is probably best known for his work in “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,” and Cancelmi was last seen in “The Irishman,” the additions of Isbell and Simpson definitely stand out, as both are musicians that don’t have much acting experience. Isbell is making his acting debut in the Scorsese film. He’s probably best known for the albums, “Something More Than Free” and “The Nashville Sound,” which won Grammy Awards for Best Americana Album and Best American Roots Song. He also is the songwriter behind “Maybe It’s Time,” which appeared in “A Star is Born.” Simpson is a massively popular musician who has already appeared in recent films such as “Queen & Slim” and “The Dead Don’t Die.” For the latter, he actually wrote and performed the theme song.

In addition to the new cast members, “Killers of the Flower Moon” is also reportedly adding (as discovered by The Film Stage) Production Designer, Jack Fisk to the crew. For those not familiar with Fisk by name, you are definitely familiar with his design work in film. His work has appeared in films such as “Carrie,” “The Thin Red Line,” “Mulholland Drive,” “The Tree of Life,” and “The Master.” Fisk has earned two Oscar nominations for his production design in the films “The Revenant” and “There Will Be Blood.” Interestingly, it appears this might be the first time that he has worked with Martin Scorsese on a film, adding just another absolute legend to his filmography.

As of now, “Killers of the Flower Moon” doesn’t have an anticipated release date, but you better believe it’ll be a prime awards contender immediately upon release.
