Jessica Chastain Says Joaquin Phoenix's 'Joker' Performance Is "One Of The Greatest" She's Ever Seen

It’s been a month since the release of Todd Phillips’ “Joker.” And in the weeks leading up to the film’s release, the talk surrounding the picture seemed to only revolve around the movie’s message and the potential violence that could stem from it. However, a month later, there’s been no violence and the conversation has, rightfully, come back to the film’s merits and the performance of Joaquin Phoenix.

And in a recent exchange on social media, started by actor Vincent D’Onofrio, it appears that Phoenix has the support of at least one major acting force, Jessica Chastain, who throws around some pretty incredible (if not hyperbolic) words about the lead performance in “Joker.”

“I agree,” tweeted Chastain. “It’s one of the greatest pieces of acting that I’ve ever seen. Mouth was dropped open in the theatre as it played. It left me shook.”

Sure, if you’ve been on social media over the last month or so, you’ve heard some pretty hyperbolic words being spoken about Phoenix’s performance in “Joker.” And even critics have been gushing about the role, saying that the actor has just about cemented his spot come Oscar night. However, it’s different when you have someone like Chastain say something like that.

Chastain has been twice nominated for an Academy Award and is generally regarded as one of the best actors on the planet. And sure, it wouldn’t be crazy for her to say that Phoenix’s performance is one of the best of the year or one of the best in a comic book film. But to say “one of the greatest” of all time? That’s some high praise.

Clearly, if we were to have to guess who the frontrunners for the acting trophies are right now, Phoenix would be at the top of the list. And apparently, he has the support of at least a couple of his acting peers.

“Joker” is now playing.
