Jim Carrey Drops Out Of The 'Dumb & Dumber' Sequel Because The Studio Isn't As Excited To Make It As He Is

nullTalked about fro almost as long as the Farrelly Brothers' "The Three Stooges," a sequel to "Dumb & Dumber" seems to have been kicking around as an idea/rumor for a while now and for fans of the awesomely low-brow comedy, it looked like those dreams were coming true. This spring, Peter Farrelly confidently stated he had Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels set to return with a September shoot all lined up. But those plans appear to have been canceled.

Speaking to the folks at ET, Carrey revealed the proposed title for the movie, but added that Warner Bros. and New Line weren't as hot on the idea as he was. "I would have thought 'Dumb and Dumber To' was a no-brainer, after all it's implied in the title," he says.

However, don't think this is the last we'll hear about the sequel. Interestingly, Carrey's next film is "The Incredible Burt Wonderstone" co-starring Steve Carell, and it's being released by — you guessed it — Warner Bros. and New Line, and seeing how he's not shy about talking about this at all, it's likely he'll keep addressing it as long as folks keep bringing it up. As for the studio, it does seem odd they wouldn't press ahead with what seems like a slam-dunk idea, but maybe they are wary of giving the Farrellys the keys to anything at the moment after watching "The Three Stooges" settle on a sad $43 million worldwide.

But hey, if 'Wonderstone' is a megahit and launches Carrey back into the comedy spotlight? You can bet WB and New Line will send him fruit baskets and singing telegrams to get that sequel moving again.
