John Goodman Voices Support For Roseanne Barr & Says "She Gave Up A Lot So That People Could Work"

For the most part, everyone has condemned Roseanne Barr for her comments and tweets that led to her dismissal from the popular sitcom “Roseanne.” Numerous Hollywood types, including her cast members on the now-canceled series, have come out publicly to talk about how horrible her actions were. That being said, there’s been one person that has consistently gone to bat for the actress-comedian — John Goodman.

In a new interview from “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” Goodman again goes out on a limb for the disgraced actress and discusses what his mindset was like after the abrupt end of “Roseanne” and what led to the creation of the upcoming spin-off “The Conners.”

“The end of last season, [Roseanne Barr] goes out to the liquor store to fill her vape pen and she hasn’t been back yet,” joked Goodman, when asked about what happened to the actress and the former series.

The actor revealed that he didn’t know what would happen after Barr’s firing but really wanted the show to continue. “I mean, she is missed, definitely,” he explained. “After that many years, it’s like a family. And last year was so miraculous and so unreal, that when it went away, it was almost like a dream.”

He continued, “And I thought, ‘Okay, I’ll be a big boy and handle this,’ and I just crashed for a couple weeks.”

The Emmy Award-winning actor continued by explaining just how difficult it was for the series to continue. Producers of the revived “Roseanne” had to convince ABC that bringing back a spin-off would actually work. But the biggest hurdle was getting Barr to sign away any financial rights to the series.

“She gave up a lot so that people could work,” Goodman said.

When asked how the absence will be addressed on the series, the actor is tight-lipped, even if the character’s fate is one of the worst-kept secrets in the TV industry, at this point. “They don’t like me talking about it,” he joked.
