Jordan Vogt-Roberts Signed To Direct New 'Walking Dead' Spin-Off Coming To AMC

Despite declining ratings and the public’s obsession with zombies apparently waning, “The Walking Dead” is not only going strong into its 10th season but is branching off into yet another spin-off series. And not only that, AMC has already hired the series’ lead and a big-name director to helm the untitled spin-off.

According to Deadline, actor Nico Tortorella has signed on to star in the upcoming series, which sees the ‘Walking Dead’ universe explore the future, focusing on the first generation of folks that grew up in the zombie-filled post-apocalypse. Tortorella will play Felix, who is described as an honorable man of his word that is willing to fight for acceptance. Very vague, but then again, ‘TWD’ likes to keep plot points close to the vest.

Joining Tortorella in the project is none other than director Jordan Vogt-Roberts, who has been announced as the director on the series. Vogt-Roberts is most known for his blockbuster film “Kong: Skull Island,” which for my money still ranks as the best of the recent ‘Godzilla’ franchise films. He’s also attached to a long-in-development “Metal Gear Solid” film, and recently signed on to direct a monster movie with Michael B. Jordan, as well as a TV series about the Sega vs. Nintendo feud in the ‘80s.

As mentioned, this untitled ‘Walking Dead’ spin-off joins the zombie lineup of the mothership series, the first spin-off “Fear the Walking Dead,” and the upcoming film trilogy focused on Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes character. The new series is co-created by Scott Gimple and writer and producer Matt Negrete, who is the showrunner.

No premiere date has been announced.
