The first half of the year will see some very prestigious movies and possible Oscar contenders emerge at the Sundance, Berlin and Cannes film festivals. And then there’s “John Wick: Chapter 2,” and if I’m being honest, it’s pretty much right at the top of the movies I’m most excited for in the next few months. Sometimes, the simplest pleasure are the most rewarding.
Keanu Reeves is back to lead his new action franchise, one that sees him with a new dog, new suit, and working his passport as he travels to Italy to kick some more ass, and get reunited with Morpheus from “The Matrix.” Hell, yes. Here’s the official synopsis:
In this next chapter following the 2014 hit, legendary hitman John Wick [Keanu Reeves] is forced back out of retirement by a former associate plotting to seize control of a shadowy international assassins’ guild. Bound by a blood oath to help him, John travels to Rome where he squares off against some of the world’s deadliest killers.
The film will co-star Common, Riccardo Scamarcio, Laurence Fishburne, Ruby Rose, Bridget Moynahan, Lance Reddick, Franco Nero, John Leguizamo, and Ian McShane, and yes, the door is already being left open for another installment.
“I don’t wanna give anything away, but if it’s a hit, there’s definitely room for a ‘John Wick 3,” ” Leguizamo recently told Birth Movies Death.
“John Wick: Chapter 2” opens on February 10, 2017.
