With Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn now confirmed for "True Detective," the internet has decreed that the second season of the HBO procedural will either be the best or worst thing ever. And yet another name has entered the mix for one of the major female roles on the show.
Deadline has tossed Keira Knightley into the fray that currently includes Rosario Dawson, Kelly Reilly, Jessica Biel, Malin Akerman, Abigail Spencer, Oona Chaplin, Jaimie Alexander, Brit Marling and Rachel McAdams. The actresses were all invited to read for one of the female leads, though the trade also says some could be contending for a different female role. So basically, nobody really knows anything except that Nic Pizzolatto has sat down or will sit down with all these folks.
With fever around "True Detective" season two reaching iPhone 6 levels of hysteria before even a frame has been shot, perhaps everyone needs to chill. The eight episode season is coming, the man responsible for making the first season what it was —Pizzolatto— is still the creative guiding force, and there is no need to panic. It will be a differently flavored mystery, and frankly it should be exciting to have your expectations upended, so let’s see how this all turns out.
