Laurence Fishburne Offers His Honest Take On 'The Matrix Resurrections' & Was Just Fine With Not Being Involved

Whenever you talk about “The Matrix” and its sequels, there are plenty of people that hate everything that came after the original film. However, even in the worst of the sequels, it’s hard to deny the trio of leads in the films, Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Laurence Fishburne, is great. So, when “The Matrix Resurrections” was announced and Fishburne wasn’t among the returnees, people were rightfully bummed. Now, having seen the film, it appears Fishburne himself is perfectly happy to have been left out.

Speaking to Variety, while on the red carpet for his new film, “The School for Good and Evil,” Laurence Fishburne gave his honest assessment of the latest ‘Matrix’ film and also let everyone know that he was just fine with staying home and not taking part in what transpired in ‘Resurrections.’

“It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. And it wasn’t as good as I hoped it would be,” Fishburne said about the fourth ‘Matrix’ film. “But I thought Carrie-Anne [Moss] and Keanu [Reeves] really did their thing. Yeah, that’s what I thought.”

However, when asked if he felt like he missed out by not being included in the latest ‘Matrix’ sequel, Fishburne replied, “No, not really.”

Well, ok!

You may remember, when it was first announced that “The Matrix Resurrections” was happening and Carrie-Anne Moss and Keanu Reeves were returning, fans were confused as to why Fishburne wasn’t included. At the time, the actor’s only response was that he “wasn’t invited” to take part. Obviously, when you watch the film, you can see there’s a story-based reason why Fishburne’s Morpheus was recast. (You know, other than the whole part about Morpheus being dead.)

While some people think “The Matrix Resurrections” is some sort of affront to the legacy of ‘The Matrix,’ it’s certainly not that bad. But, it definitely feels like Fishburne’s succinct review of the film is exactly how many people feel after watching the film.
