Universal Pictures and writer/director Christopher Nolan have reunited for the Greek epic “The Odyssey” with a bit of a last-minute casting shake-up, as British actor Cosmo Jarvis (“Shogun,” “Warfare”) has been replaced by Logan Marshall-Green (“Upgrade,” “Prometheus”) as filming is still taking place.
This switch-up was reported by Deadline as we have to imagine something drastic would have pulled Jarvis away from the project, cited as scheduling issues, as the actor on the rise would have likely only got bigger from appearing in a massive Nolan movie like this, even if it is an assemble piece led by Matt Damon.

Of course, Damon plays Odysseus, the war-wary King of Ithaca who endures an epic journey from the shores of Troy after a war alongside fellow Greek forces back to his wife and son.
Our hero faces all sorts of threats, including the Gods themselves, magic-wielders, the deadly Sirens’ song, sea monsters, and a giant cyclops. Nolan is said to be focusing on as much practical VFX as possible, but we imagine that he’ll have to use some digital effects even if he limits the use of them in other films.
Most recently, a stripped-down thriller version of the story was explored in Ralph Fiennes‘ movie “The Return,” although Nolan’s version is likely going to be more in the realm of the bombastic Wolfgang Petersen‘s “Troy.” A film, oddly enough, that Nolan nearly made himself, and Warner Bros. had once considered making a sequel with Sean Bean‘s Odysseus following that iconic work by Homer.
Filming has been taking place in Morocco, Italy, Ireland, and Scotland with a high-profile supporting cast that features the likes of Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Lupita Nyong’o, Jon Bernthal, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Elliot Page, Mia Goth, Himesh Patel, Benny Safdie, Ryan Hurst, Corey Hawkins, Samantha Morton, John Leguizamo, and Charlize Theron, confirming her role as the sorceress Circe, who turns Odysseus’ fellow sailors into animals.
A teaser trailer for “The Odyssey” has been attached to screenings over the weekend with leaked versions making the rounds online, but we’re hopeful that Universal will drop the footage officially soon so we can share it. Stay tuned as that teaser is on its way.
