'Los Espookys' Trailer: Fred Arminsen Brings Spanish-Language Horror Comedy To HBO Later This Month

When you think of a new series from the mind of “Saturday Night Live” alum Fred Armisen, you’re probably going to imagine a new sketch comedy series akin to his IFC hit series “Portlandia.” You’re probably not picturing a Spanish-language comedy about a group of young people that run a horror hoax business. Alas, it exists and it’s called “Los Espookys.”

In the recently released trailer for “Los Espooky’s, we see that the combined minds of Armisen, Julio Torres, and Ana Fabrega have created a half-hour comedy series that uses horror films as a foundation to explore the lives of a group of friends trying to make sense of their ever-changing lives. And they do this with the help of their business, which sees them hired to implement elaborate hoaxes to convince people that horrors are real.

Armisen, of course, appears in a supporting role in the series. However, the stars of “Los Espookys” are Fabrega, Torres, Cassandra Ciangherotti, and Bernardo Velasco, who play the titular characters that run the very interesting business.

HBO is releasing the new Spanish-language series, which is a far cry from the networks’ hit original dramatic offerings, which recently include “Game of Thrones,” “Chernobyl,” and “Westworld.” “Los Espookys” definitely feels more at home among the various recent comedies like “Silicon Valley,” “Veep,” and “Barry.”

And because the man’s name is basically on any comedy ever, ‘SNL’ mastermind Lorne Michaels is an executive producer. “Los Espookys” premieres on HBO on June 14.

Here’s the synopsis:

From the minds of Julio Torres and Ana Fabrega, alongside Fred Armisen and Lorne Michaels of Saturday Night Live, comes the Spanish-language comedy Los Espookys. The half-hour, six-episode series follows a group of friends who turn their love for horror into a peculiar business.
