'His Dark Materials' Actress Morfydd Clark Signed To Play Galadriel In Amazon's 'Lord Of The Rings' Series

Amazon’s knee-deep in pre-production on the upcoming “Lord of the Rings” TV series, and while the show recently lost one of its leads, apparently, it found another. According to Variety, actress Morfydd Clark has been added to the cast of “Lord of the Rings,” and she’s going to portray a character that fans of the Peter Jackson films and Tolkien novels will be very familiar with.

The report claims that Clark, who is probably best known for her role in the recent HBO series “His Dark Materials” has signed on to play young Galadriel in the upcoming ‘Rings’ series. It’s a role that was previously played by none other than Cate Blanchett in the aforementioned film series. For those not familiar, Galadriel is one of the Elvish leaders in Middle-earth. And while she did show up in the Jackson films, her old age makes her perfectly suited to show up in the upcoming prequel series.

While we still don’t have explicit confirmation, Amazon has hinted that “Lord of the Rings” will take place during what is referred to the Second Age, where the evil Sauron began his quest to collect the rings. Galadriel is actually a character that predates the First Age and is already a noble during the time of the Second Age. Because of the time period that the streaming series is said to occupy, it’s expected that there won’t be very many familiar names in the cast of characters, so it’s nice to see Galadriel is joining.
