The Namor & Captain Britain Clues In 'Avengers: Endgame' Are Probably Legit As The Russos Avoid Giving Straight Answers

The uber-fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are an investigative bunch. After being trained to read between the lines and look for Easter Eggs over the last decade-plus, it appears that there was no shortage of things to talk about with “Avengers: Endgame.” And the powers of deduction have paid off, as the fans of the MCU fans have apparently deciphered the true meanings behind two seemingly insignificant lines from the film.

Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the directors Joe and Anthony Russo were asked a series of questions about hints that were given in “Avengers: Endgame.” Though the film is clearly an ending to the Infinity Saga, many fans thought that two lines, in particular, were planting seeds for potential future appearances of some new characters.

When asked about a Namor reference, specifically when Okoye talks to Black Widow about a seismic event under the ocean, Joe Russo smiled and said, “Maaaaybe.”

Of course, Namor is probably best summed up as Marvel’s Aquaman. That being said, there’s plenty of incredible Namor storylines that could factor into the future of the MCU. And we’ve already seen speculation that the character is set to join a Marvel film soon.

He continued, “It could just be an earthquake.”

This sort of sly misdirection kept going when the Russos were asked about Peggy Carter saying the name “Braddock” in the scene when Captain America is back in 1970. For those that aren’t well-versed in the deep Marvel Universe lore, Braddock most likely refers to the character named Brian Braddock, aka Captain Britain.

Joe Russo replied, “Well, yeah…I think…maybe. Maybe it’s just a guy named Braddock. [Laughs]”

Opposed to Namor, the introduction of Captain Britain isn’t’ likely to happen anytime soon, unless he shows up as a supporting character down the line. He’s not a big name in the comics, at all, and wouldn’t probably make for a blockbuster solo franchise. But as a character, Captain Britain could be fun to have appear down the line. Maybe in that upcoming “Falcon and Winter Soldier” series?

All that to say that the MCU fans are a perceptive bunch and it appears that they have even surprised the Russos with guessing two more covert allusions in “Avengers: Endgame.”
