After months of speculation, it’s official: Park Chan-wook‘s new movie “No Other Choice” will have its world premiere at the 2025 Venice Film Festival in competition for the coveted Golden Lion. It’s also the Korean director’s first feature on the Lido since 2005’s “Lady Vengeance,” and that’s cause for excitement in itself.

But “No Other Choice” faces some tough competition for Venice’s top prize, Yorgos Lanthimos‘ “Bugonia” and Kathryn Bigelow‘s “A House Of Dynamite” among them. Never count out Park Chan-wook, though. He’s a master cinematic craftsman who only gets better with age, and NEON‘s new teaser for “No Other Choice” proves that further.
Based on the Donald Westlake novel “The Ax,” “No Other Choice” follows a man recently laid off by his longtime employer whose hunt for a new job becomes increasingly more violent and unhinged.
Here’s an official synopsis for “No Other Choice,” courtesy of NEON:
When a man is abruptly laid off by the paper company where he has worked tirelessly for many years, he grows increasingly desperate in his hunt.
Along with Lee Byung-hun, “No Other Choice” also stars Son Ye-jin, Park Hee-soon, Lee Sung-min, Yeom Hye-ran, Cha Seung-won, and Yoo Yeon-seok.
Along with directing, Park Chan-wook also pens the film’s screenplay with Don McKellar, Lee Kyoung-mi, and Lee Ja-hye. He also produces the pic, as he’s done for his previous two films, 2022’s “Decision To Leave” and 2016’s “The Handmaiden.”
After its debut at Venice, “No Other Choice” is set to hit US theaters this fall, courtesy of NEON. MUBI will handle its international release, and CJ Entertainment will handle its local Korean release. Watch the new teaser for the film below.
