'Orange Is The New Black' Season 6 Trailer: Relationships Are Tested In Maximum Security

Remember when Netflix’s flagship show “Orange Is the New Black” was a comedy? Those were simpler times. The prison set comedy-drama has certainly come a long way and shows zero signs of slowing down. While little is known about the upcoming season, cast member Danielle Brooks teased to Variety that “coming off last season’s finale, there’s no up from there. There’s nowhere you can go that’s a positive.”

Showrunner Jenji Kohan has kept plot details for the latest season under lock and key but has dropped a few hints as to what fans can expect. The show has always found a way to tackle real-life social issues and this season is no different. “… [For season] six, I don’t think anyone can help but incorporate some of the feelings associated with what’s going on and the divisions and all that stuff.”

As seen in the trailer, season six picks up in the aftermath of season five’s game-changing events. In case you need a refresher, the previous season took place almost in real time over the course of three riot-filled days at Litchfield. The actions resulted in a group of Litchfield inmates, including Piper (Taylor Schilling), Crazy Eyes (two-time Emmy winner Uzo Aduba), Taystee (Brooks), and Red (Kate Mulgrew), awaiting their fate as officers in full battle gear confront them. What about the rest of the inmates? They were loaded onto busses to head out to different prisons.

The large ensemble cast also includes Selenis Leyva, Adrienne C. Moore, Laura Prepon, Natasha Lyonne, and Nick Sandow. Joining the cast this season is “Bull” star Rebecca Knox who has described her character as a “tough little thing” who “knows what she wants and will do whatever it takes to get it.”

Netflix will premiere all episodes of “Orange Is the New Black” season six on July 27.
