Paul Feig Returns To Erotic Thriller Genre With ‘Persona’ After 20th Century Wins Auction, Compared To A Modern ‘Fatal Attraction’

After delivering the box office hit “The Housemaid,” director Paul Feig is returning to the thriller genre with “Persona,” which looks like another erotic thriller that is said to be in the vein of the Glenn Close and Michael Douglas film “Fatal Attraction” with a “modern twist.”

“Persona” is based on a novella penned by Marc Guggenheim and ended up landing a 7-figure deal after 20th Century Studios landed the gestating pic after it went to auction, as mentioned in a report hailing from Deadline. Sadly, character details or a basic synopsis for the novella aren’t being mentioned, so we’ll have to be patient on that front.

You might remember that back in 2023, there was a “Fatal Attraction” series remake at Paramount+ that starred Lizzy Caplan and Joshua Jackson. Although if “Persona” is being compared to the original film, it likely means the basic beats will be similar, as an affair goes south after a sexual partner is scorned, leading to increasing levels of psychological and physical violence.

Guggenheim is a notable comic book writer but has long worked as a Hollywood screenwriter on projects such as “Arrow,” “Legends of Tomorrow,” “Supergirl,” “Law & Order,” “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters,” and the 2011 “Green Lantern” movie helmed by Martin Campbell. Most recently, he co-wrote and exec-produced the “An Innocent Girl,” starring Kerry Washington, James Marsden, Chloe East, and Colman Domingo (production on that one is said to be now underway).

Feig is also set to reunite with Sydney Sweeney on “The Housemaid” sequel, with Kirsten Dunst (“Civil War,” “The Roofman”) already set to take a part in “The Housemaid’s Secret” and Lionsgate is coming off super confident about the audience hunger for the next installment setting that one for release in theaters on December 17, 2027, a crowed date as “Avengers: Secret Wars” and “The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.”
