After earlier revealing that Siân Heder’s “Being Heumann,” Hur Jin-ho’s “The Assassin(s),” and Rachel Morrison’s “Love of Your Life” were among a slate of world premieres, the Toronto International Film Festival revealed the rest of its gala and special presentations slate for 2026. In so doing, their premiere categorization informs many observers of the world premieres for the 2026 Venice International Film Festival and the 2026 Telluride International Film Festival immediately preceding it. The big news was that Peter Farrelly’s “I Play Rocky,” Chris Rock’s “Misy Green,” his first directorial effort in 12 years, as well as Anton Corbijn’s “A Talent For Murder” are among the new world premieres added to the slate.
The festival also revealed that the Closing Night Film will be Yan Lanouette Turgeon’s “Villeneuve: The Rise of a Legend,” and it’s not about the Villeneuve you’re immediately thinking of. Instead, it’s a biographical sports drama that chronicles the early years of Canadian racing legend Gilles Villeneuve’s career. That screening will occur on Saturday, September 19.
Other world premieres include Takashi Miike’s “Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo,” Scarlett Bermingham and Andrew Rhymer’s “All That She Wants,” Sue Kim’s “Always Lalisa,” Lauren Miller Rogen’s “Babies,” Wayne Wang’s “Diary of a Mad Old Man,” Courtney Cox’s “Evil Genius,” Rebel Wilson’s “Girl Group,” Adrian Buitenhuis’ “Man in Motion: The Rick Hansen Story,” John Madden’s “Onwards and Sideways,” Joss Crowley’s “Pretenders,” Tim Blake Nelson’s “The Life and Deaths of Wilson Shedd,” Trudie Styler’s “Up Against It,” Jonathan Schey’s “Everybody Wants To F*** Me,” Paul Andrew William’s “Faith,” Hans Petter Moland’s “Growth of the Soil,” Feng-I Fiona Roan’s “Happily Ever After,” Jaap van Heusden and Vinnie Karetak’s “In Alaska,” Michaël R. Roskam’s “Le Faux Soir,” Yeon Sang-ho’s “Paradise Lost,” Richie Mehta’s “Phoolan,” Niki Byrne’s “The Julia Set,” Michael Dowse, “The Stunt Driver,” and Mina Shum’s “Watcha Want.”
Films that will be screening at Toronto and look like Venice world premieres include Danny Boyle’s “Ink,” Hirokazu Kore-eda’s “Look Back” (Kore-eda’s second film in three months), Gael Garcia Bernal’s “Hombre al agua,” Shinya Tsukamoto’s “Mr. Nelson, Did You Kill People?,” Lee Chang-dong’s Possible Love,” Marc Fitoussi’s “All About Corinne,” Florian Zeller’s “Bunker,” Jennifer Peedom’s “Tenzing,” Mike Leigh’s “Tender Loving Care,” Andrew Haigh’s “A Long Winter,” Simon Stone’s “Elsinore,” and Jimmy Chin, Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi’s “Everest The Other Side,” for now.
Anticipated Telluride Film Festival debuts and screenings include Jesse Eisenberg’s “The Debut,” Jordan Firstman’s “Club Kid,” Los Javis’ “La Bola Negra,” Andrey Zvyagintsev’s “Minatour,” Marie Kreutzer’s “Gentle Monster,” Christian Mungiu’s “Fjord,” Beth de Araújo’s “Josephine,” as well as the aforementioned “Tender Loving Care,” “Ink,” “Tenzing,” “A Long Winter,” “Elsinore,” and “Everest: The Other Side.”

The Discovery slate will be unveiled on Wednesday, while the Primetime lineup drops on Thursday. Centrepiece, Wavelengths & Classics will be announced on August 4.
