‘Rogue Squadron’: Chris Pine Has Spoken To Patty Jenkins About Her ‘Star Wars’ Film But Says He’s Not Involved

Chris Pine has ventured into the world of “Star Trek” as Captain Kirk in the most recent film reboot franchise. He’s also shown up in two “Wonder Woman” films. Pine has even voiced Peter Parker in “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.” Hell, we might see him in a “Dungeons & Dragons” film, as well. All that to say, Chris Pine knows his way around a blockbuster film franchise. So, maybe the next logical step for him is to take the leap with Patty Jenkins and hit up the “Star Wars” universe in the forthcoming ‘Rogue Squadron,’ right?

Well, in a new interview with Collider, Pine admits that he has spoken to Jenkins about her upcoming “Star Wars: Rogue Squadron.” Still, he wants to make it clear that they have not discussed whether or not he’s involved with the highly-anticipated blockbuster coming in three years.

“I had spoken to her about, not my involvement, but the story,” said Pine. “She talked to me about it. It sounds really, really great. But I’m ecstatic for her, excited for what she’s about to embark on. If there’s anyone that can reimagine and breathe fresh, new life into it, it’s her.”

Obviously, Pine’s approval of Jenkins’ pitch for ‘Rogue Squadron’ is nice to hear. But let’s be real, until he made these comments, you probably weren’t thinking about Pine as the star of the film, right? However, when you take a moment to think about Chris Pine suiting up as a pilot of an X-wing in ‘Rogue Squadron,’ how bad do you want that film?

Clearly, Chris Pine has the charisma and acting prowess to lead the film. He might actually be the closest thing that “Star Wars” gets to another Han Solo-esque personality. (Sorry for fans of Oscar Isaac’s Poe Dameron, but he never gets to embrace the lovable scoundrel archetype in the Sequel Trilogy fully.) Add to that the fact that Chris Pine and Patty Jenkins have worked together on two “Wonder Woman” films and an underrated TV series (“I Am The Night”), and this smells like the most obvious casting choice of all time.

Look— ‘Rogue Squadron’ sounds like it could be a lot of fun and a welcome departure from Jedis and Sith, which “Star Wars” needs right now. But if you really want to get fans (i.e., this writer) hyped for another film in the franchise, Pine is your guy. Kathleen Kennedy, make it happen.
