Got a Tip?

Rumor: DC Comics Characters Blue Beetle And Booster Gold Have Team-Up Movie In The Works

Blue Beetle And Booster GoldAs Marvel have already proven, a comic book character doesn’t have to be well known to be successful. They made B-character "Iron Man" the anchor of their current universe of movies, while they turned the wacky personalities of "Guardians Of The Galaxy" into an unlikely mainstream hit. So, their counterparts over at DC are apparently also digging into the vault to see what they can do with a duo that I’ve never even heard of.

According to The Tracking Board, Greg Berlanti (TV series "Arrow" and "The Flash") has been tapped to direct and executive produce a feature film team-up movie for Blue Beetle and Booster Gold. You can click on those links to learn more about them, but there’s two important things to know: this potential project will be akin to a "superhero buddy cop movie"; and both characters are part of Justice League, which means the wheels are reportedly in motion for them to make an appearance in one of the two Zack Snyder-directed movies.

Meanwhile, Heroic Hollywood adds that Zak Penn ("The Avengers," "The Incredible Hulk," "X-Men 2: X-Men United") may write the screenplay, but it’s not concrete just yet. It all sounds a bit early in the process at the moment, and I wouldn’t be surprised if like everything else Warner Bros. is working on with their DC properties, they take Blue Beetle and Booster Gold to a handful of writers to figure out the best way to bring these guys to the big screen and integrate them into their universe.

It’s all a pretty big win for Berlanti who was one of the producers on the flop "Green Lantern," and at one point back in the day was going to direct "The Flash." The latter gig went away, but Berlanti went to television, established his superhero chops there, and seems to have worked his way to back into the favor of WB’s feature film team.

But what do you think? Can this duo fit in the gritty, dark approach that WB is using for the rest of their comic properties? Let us know below.
