With Javier Bardem giving James Bond trouble as the baddie Silva in “Skyfall,” could producers be keeping it in the family for the Bond girl for “Bond 24“? If rumors coming out of the UK are accurate that could be the case, but we’ll see how it plays out.
Anyway, according to Yahoo UK, Cruz is lining up be the next Bond girl which make her the oldest actress ever (at 40 years old) to slink around and seduce 007. “The producers have tried to get Penelope before, but she has never been available because of other commitments. The discussions have been going on for some time and they are working out the contract details now,” a source told the site, but we’ll see how accurate this is.
While there has been no hard and fast rules when it comes to Bond girls, the Daniel Craig-era has tended to favor smaller/lesser known names (Eva Green, Gemma Arterton, Olga Kurylenko, Berenice Marlohe) over, well, Oscar winners. In fact, the role might be a curious one for Cruz to take, especially given she’s been a bit less active in a past couple years as she’s started a family, but then again she also did swashbuckle in “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” so maybe she’s feeling the blockbuster itch again.
All this said, take with a grain of salt until official. UK press tends to be pretty wild at times, and something about all this (and the Bardem/Cruz connection) makes it seem a little too good to be true. Unless, Silva’s ex-wife/sexy henchman is out for revenge.
