Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds may have just teased or announced his involvement as the cheeky mutant Deadpool in The Russo Brothers‘ “Avengers: Doomsday,” but he could also be hinting at an even bigger announcement to come.
The logo posted by Reynolds on his official Instagram account mimics the defaced Avengers flag using the anarchy symbol that had been previously spotted in “Deadpool & Wolverine” (the void sequence also had a “Secret Wars” comic book featuring villains Doctor Doom and The Beyonder on the cover).
This may also be a huge indicator that not only is Reynolds appearing as Wade Wilson in “Avengers: Doomsday” but that another round of actors could be named for the project (potentially other co-stars like Hugh Jackman and Dafne Keen being in that mix of new names added, as they get their claws sharpened).
If this does indeed come together and Reynolds isn’t teasing something else (like mysterious crossover project, “Deadpool 4,” or “X-Force“) Wade wouldn’t be the only mutant appearing in the film as The Russos have previously enlisted James Marsden as Cyclops (died in “X-Men: The Last Stand”), Patrick Stewart as Professor X (also died in “The Last Stand,” along with “Logan” and “Doctor Strange 2”), Ian McKellen as Magneto, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn‘s Mystique, Kesley Grammer back as Beast, and Channing Tatum‘s Gambit, who you might remember was first introduced to the world via “Deadpool & Wolverine.” There had also been what looked like pieces of the mutant-hunting robots, the Sentinels, spotted on the “Doomsday” set in the United Kingdom.
In “Deadpool & Wolverine,” Marvel Studios went out of their way to link Wade’s pocket universe with the Scared Timeline via the involvement of the TVA from the “Loki” series, allowing for a potential crossover with Earth-616 down the line.
There had been teases since the Disney merger with 21st Century Fox that a PG-13 version of Deadpool could make its way into the MCU, and this just might be the crossover project fans had been waiting for, or dreading depending on your point of view of Marvel watering down the Merc-With-A-Mouth for younger audiences (a PG-13 version of “Deadpool 2” already exists).
I guess we’ll have to be patient for confirmation of what this exactly means for Reynolds and Deadpool.
