Samuel L. Jackson Thinks Marvel Studios Used 'The Negotiator' As His Facial Reference For 'Captain Marvel'

We don’t know what deal he made with the devil or if he found the elusive Fountain of Youth, but there needs to be a full scientific investigation into how Samuel L. Jackson can look like he does at age 70. It defies logic. Normally, when people age, they look, well uh, old. Not Jackson.

But even still, when Marvel Studios wanted to use the actor for “Captain Marvel,” they had to use extensive CGI to de-age the actor back to his 1995 self, as the film is set in the mid-’90s. Honestly, why did they bother wasting the money? Whatever the reason, in a new interview, Jackson thinks he knows which version of his face they used. And it’s probably not what you’re thinking.

When looking at mid-’90s Jackson filmography, a couple of highs stand out. You have the underrated “The Long Kiss Goodnight.” There’s the only really decent “Die Hard” sequel, ‘With a Vengeance.’ Then, obviously, we have to mention “Pulp Fiction.” However, according to the actor, he thinks Marvel looked past all those films and focused on a forgotten film where he co-starred with Kevin Spacey.

“I was like, ‘Oh, that will probably be like ‘Negotiator’ face,’” Jackson said (via Yahoo). “Which is probably what it was.”

You might think that Marvel Studios would ask Jackson which face that they should try to emulate in the film. Alas, that doesn’t seem to be the case. “They don’t ask us anything,” Jackson said.

Well, no matter which face the studio used as its reference, the de-aging looks pretty seamless, which is remarkable itself. Of course, did the CGI gurus behind-the-scenes have to do anything really extensive? Look at the man, he seriously hasn’t aged since 1995 anyway.

“Captain Marvel” hits theaters this Friday.
