‘Sexy Beast’ Prequel Series Casts James McArdle & Emun Elliott In Lead Roles

Sexy Beast” is a film that critically acclaimed (and Oscar-nominated) when it was released in 2000, but it doesn’t seem to be brought up much when talking about some of the best films of that era. Well, Paramount+ is hoping you haven’t forgotten the film, as the network has found the cast that will lead the prequel series that the streamer is working on now.

According to Variety, James McArdle and Emun Elliott have been cast in the lead roles of the “Sexy Beast” prequel series coming to Paramount+. McArdle and Elliott are set to play the roles originally inhabited by Ray Winstone and Ben Kingsley in the 2000 film by filmmaker Jonathan Glazer. The new series is set in the ‘90s, years before the original film, and follows two friends, Gal Dove (McArdle) and Don Logan (Elliott) as they enjoy their lives as small-time thieves and begin to enter a new stage in their criminal lives. 

Joining McArdle and Elliott in the cast are Sarah Greene as DeeDee, Stephen Moyer as Teddy Bass, and Tamsin Greig as Cecilia. The remaining cast will include Eliza Bennett, Clea Martin, Nicholas Nunn, John Dagleish, Robbie Gee, Paul Kaye, Lex Shrapnel, Cally Lawrence, David Kennedy, Nitin Ganatra, and Alice Bailey Johnson. The “Sexy Beast” prequel series comes from writer, showrunner, and producer Michael Caleo.

“I feel so fortunate to be able to explore these beautifully crafted characters a decade before we met them in the original story,” said Caleo. “This series has been a great passion of mine for many years and I cannot wait to see it come to life with this amazing cast.”

A release date on Paramount+ has yet to be announced, though production on the new series is underway in London.
