'Skyscraper' Final Trailer: The Rock Does His Best Spider-Man Impression 240 Stories Above Ground

At this point, you’re either ready for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s version of “Die Hard,” aka “Skyscraper,” or you couldn’t care less. There’s really no piece of marketing that will unlock the hidden greatness of the action film for you. But that being said, Universal wants to keep trying, and thus we have the third official trailer for the latest action film from the world’s biggest action star.

To call this new clip a trailer is a bit of a misnomer. What the studio has released is a minute-long scene from the film, followed by a quick 20-second montage explaining the basics. In this trailer, we watch as The Rock does his best Spider-Man impression by wrapping duct tape around his hands and scales the side of the titular building hoping not to fall. And as you might expect, it doesn’t go as planned, and we watch The Rock leaping and falling and grunting, as he’s saved by his prosthetic leg.

It is a little odd to release a trailer for a film that is coming out in less than two weeks. This could mean that the studio is supremely confident in this new collaboration between Johnson and director Rawson Marshall Thurber, who previously worked together on the film “Central Intelligence,” or it shows that Universal is concerned about the performance of the film and needs all the help they can get to recoup their film that has a reported budget of $125 million.

It’ll be interesting to see how audiences react to the film, as they weren’t so kind, at least domestically, to The Rock’s last film in April, “Rampage.” And with competition coming from all sides, including “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,” “Ant-Man and the Wasp,” and “Mission: Impossible – Fallout,” “Skyscraper” definitely needs to be something special to attract the crowds necessary for profitability.

But hey, that’s neither here nor there. This is all about the trailer. And if you’re down for The Rock leaping around the outside of a 240-story building that’s on fire, then “Skyscraper” is definitely for you.

“Skyscraper” hits theaters July 13.
