‘Slingshot’: Casey Affleck To Star Opposite Laurence Fishburne In The Sci-Fi Drama

Casey Affleck hasn’t been completely missing from films over the past several years, but you would really have to hunt down his movies to see them. Since the controversy arose with allegations of inappropriate misconduct on the set of “I’m Still Here,” that (re)surfaced after the release of “Manchester By The Sea,” Affleck has taken on smaller roles in indie films and lower-profile features. Well, his upcoming movie, “Slingshot,” looks to be his most high-profile project in years.

As reported by THR, Casey Affleck is joining Laurence Fishburne, Emily Beecham, Tomer Capone, and David Morrissey in the cast of the upcoming sci-fi feature, “Slingshot.” The film tells the story of an astronaut losing grip on reality while onboard a ship doomed to failure while traveling to Saturn’s moon, Titan. The film comes from director Mikael Håfström, who recently released the Netflix sci-fi action film, “Outside the Wire,” and is written by R. Scott Adams (“Donner Pass”) and Nathan Parker (“Moon”).

“After several years of preparation, it is exciting to take off with this highly talented cast,” said Håfström. “I am looking forward to the challenge of working within the contained environment of the spaceship. The script carves out some excellent characters and, as the story unfolds, some shocking secrets come to light.”

As mentioned, Casey Affleck hasn’t disappeared at all from acting in recent years, but he’s decidedly gone with a quieter and more indie-bent in his choices. His most recent films include “Every Breath You Take,” “The World to Come,” and “Our Friend.”

A release date for “Slingshot” has yet to be announced. However, filming is scheduled to begin on the project on December 1 in Europe.
