Sony Will Distribute 'The 'Evil Dead' Remake, Filming To Kick Off In 2012

nullThe remake train keeps on rolling, and yes kiddies, Sam Raimi is producing a remake of his own cult classic, "The Evil Dead," and now a powerhouse studio is behind the movie.

Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquistions are pairing up with FilmDistrict to take on the Ghost House Pictures flick, with Sony landing the worldwide distribution rights excluding France and the U.K. Hyped newcomer Fede Alvarez, best known for his short "Panic Attack!" is making his feature debut with the film, that none other than Oscar winning "Juno" writer Diablo Cody has taken a pen to. But with the never-given-to-hyperbole Bruce Campbell stating that the script is "awesome" (he's also making a cameo) and with Cody saying it's "unbelievably scary," perhaps they'll do justice to Raimi's movie. In either case, expectations are going to be very high on this one.

But with Sony throwing in their hand behind the picture, it's definitely a big vote of confidence, and a very early belief that they have something major on their hands. Either that or they're smelling a franchise. But we'll see how they feel once the dailies start coming in. Filming is slated to kick off in 2012. [Deadline]
