Having stormed the Venice Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival and quickly establishing itself as an awards season contender, Pablo Larrain‘s “Jackie” has a lot going for it. Front and center is a performance by Natalie Portman that’s said to be among her finest work ever, and it’s served by a musical foundation laid down by composer/singer Mica Levi. We adored her work in “Under The Skin,” and once again it seems she’s conjured something truly original.

The first track from the soundtrack, “Children,” has arrived, and it’s lovely. Jessica Kiang wrote of the music out of Venice that its “foreboding, descending, atonal orchestral drone makes the 1950s weepie shot, and the immaculate 1960s styling [of the film], including Jackie’s iconic asymmetric bob with the big side forever whipped into a single perfect chin-length curl, feel impeccably modern.”
Levi’s full score for “Jackie” will be released on January 2nd, the same day the film opens. Check out the tracklist and listen to “Children” below. [Pitchfork]
