‘Teenage Sex And Death At Camp Miasma’: Jane Schoenbrun’s Next Film Stars Hannah Einbender & Gillian Anderson

There’s been rumblings about Jane Schoenbrun‘s follow-up to last year’s “I Saw The TV Glow,” but now it’s official. “Teenage Sex And Death At Camp Miasma” heads into production later this year, courtesy of MUBI and Plan B, with Hannah Einbender and Gillian Anderson set to star. That sounds great to us.

So what’s Schoenbrun’s latest about?  Here’s their press statement for the project: “I make movies I wish existed when I was a kid. “Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma” is my best attempt at the ‘sleepover classic’: an insane yet cozy midnight odyssey that beckons to unsuspecting viewers from the horror section at the local video store. I couldn’t be more excited to be heading to sleepaway camp this summer with the mad comic genius Hannah Einbinder, the legendary Gillian Anderson, and the daring folks at MUBI and Plan B, who by greenlighting this movie have summoned a plague-like flood of blood, guts, and various other fluids to rain down on us all.”

Hmm, so something gory set at an overnight camp. That sounds like something in the vein of classic slasher series like “Friday The 13th” and “Sleepaway Camp,” both of which match Schoenbrun’s aesthetic and thematic concerns.  Therefore it’s also safe to expect some more overtly horror than horror-tinged, like “I Saw The TV Glow” and “We’re All Going To The World’s Fair,” but maybe Schoenbrun will surprise audiences.

As for the cast sheet, Anderson needs no introduction, but Schoenbrun’s latest may be a breakout role for “Hacks” star Einbender. Einbender holds her own against the great Jean Smart on that series, but the Max series is her biggest role, and her only film credit is a cameo in 2001’s “North Hollywood.” With “Hacks” ending, maybe “Teenage Sex And Death At Camp Miasma” will be the first of many upcoming film roles for Einbender.

Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, and Jeremy Kleiner produce Shoenbrun’s latest via Plan B.  Daniel Bekerman also serves as executive producer via Scythia Films.  MUBI handle the film’s financing and distributes the film in North America, Latin America, the UK and Ireland, Germany, Austria, Benelux, Turkey, Indian, Australia, and New Zealand.  The Match Factory handles worldwide sales.

Along with “Teenage Sex And Death At Camp Miasma,” Schoenbrun also has their first novel on the way: “Public Access Afterworld, which will hit bookstores in 2026.
