It’s been a while since Michel Gondry‘s last film: eight years, in fact. But the “Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind” director showed up at the Cannes Film Festival in May with a new film, “The Book Of Solutions.” Part of the festival’s Directors’ Fortnight, the film is a meta look at Gondry’s creative life, about a filmmaker stuck in a rut while trying to make a film.

And while it’s still looking for US distribution, here’s a trailer for “The Book Of Solutions.” There’s no official synopsis out of Cannes, but here’s one from Cineeuropa:
A film director seeks to overcome the inner demons that are hindering his creativity.
“The Book Of Solutions” stars Pierre Niney, Blanche Gardin, Françoise Lebrun, Frankie Wallach, Camille Rutherford, Vincent Elbaz, and Mourad Boudaoud. Along with directing, Gondry also pens the film’s script.
The Playlist’s review of “The Book Of Solutions” out of Cannes called it “a relentlessly joyful, wild, and fundamentally optimistic journey into a fantasy of unbridled creativity,” giving it a B+. Not bad for Gondry’s first film since 2015’s “Microbe & Gasoline.” Check out a trailer for “The Book Of Solutions” below. The film hits French theaters on September 13; stay tuned for details about its American release.
