Keri Russell (“The Americans”) and Rufus Sewell (“The Man in the High Castle”) are back for Season 4 of the political drama series “The Diplomat,” as the show makes a grand return this fall on Netflix. Thankfully, we now have some first-look images and a teaser trailer to share after the streaming giant dropped the promotional materials online this morning. If you weren’t already aware, the project hails from creator and showrunner Debora Cahn.
An excellent addition to the show in recent years has been Oscar winner Allison Janney (“The Dog Stars”) as President Grace Penn and Bradley Whitford (“Get Out”) as the First Husband, both alumni of the landmark White House-set series “The West Wing.” Another neat update is that Nana Mensah, who plays White House Chief of Staff Billie Appiah, was promoted to series regular for the new season.
An official synopsis for the series as posted by the streamer’s media site, Tudum:
“In Season 4 of ‘The Diplomat,’ two marriages threaten to eat each other alive. One catastrophic moment shatters the fragile peace Kate Wyler brokered between the US and UK, as well as the crumbling marriage she’s trying to save. While she fights to stem the bleeding, President Grace Penn and VP Hal Wyler’s conspiracy to steal Russia’s most powerful weapon could hurtle the United States toward war. Kate and Todd, at best an uneasy pair, unite to stop the Grace-Hal alliance from upending the balance of power abroad and at home.”
“I’m so excited about Season 4,” Cahn told Tudum in a new promotional piece for the upcoming batch of episodes. “It’s going to be a lot of fun. We get to the end of a season, and I always think, ‘Well, there’s no way that we can do this again.’ And then we dig back into it, and it’s like, ‘Oh my God, we have to keep going.’ Working with Allison and Brad, watching them together again, and the off-the-charts foursome that is them with Keri and Rufus. It’s an insane bag of candy,” said Cahn. “Our expectations were high, and it blew right past them.”
You can view the new tantalizing teaser trailer and stills for Season 4 of “The Diplomat” below, as the show returns exclusively to Netflix on October 15, 2026. Stay tuned because a full trailer is just around the corner.
