‘The Running Man’ Trailer: Edgar Wright Turns Stephen King’s Blood-Soaked Satire Into A Blistering Survival Spectacle Starring Glen Powell

In a future where death is the ultimate entertainment, Edgar Wright is ready to press record. The first trailer for “The Running Man” — a high-octane, blood-soaked reimagining of Stephen King’s dystopian classic — turns the director’s signature energy toward a world where morality and media have finally merged. Starring Glen Powell and Josh Brolin, the film will race into theaters, including Dolby Cinema, 4DX, Premium Large Format, and IMAX, on November 14, 2025.

Based on King’s 1982 novel (originally published under his Richard Bachman pseudonym), “The Running Man” is set in a near-future society where the most-watched show on television is a state-sponsored blood sport. Contestants, known as Runners, must survive 30 days while being hunted by professional assassins — with every move broadcast to an audience hungry for violence and spectacle.

Glen Powell stars as Ben Richards, a desperate man who agrees to enter the game to save his sick daughter. But when his resilience and humanity turn him into a surprise fan favorite, he threatens to unravel the system that profits from his pain. Josh Brolin co-stars as Dan Killian, the show’s charismatic and ruthless producer who sees Richards’ defiance as both a ratings boon and a liability.

The ensemble cast includes William H. Macy, Lee Pace, Michael Cera, Emilia Jones, Daniel Ezra, Jayme Lawson, Sean Hayes, and Katy O’Brian, with Colman Domingo and Josh Brolin rounding out the lineup.

Written by Michael Bacall and Wright, the film is produced by Simon Kinberg, Nira Park, and Wright, with executive producers George Linder, James Biddle, Rachael Prior, Audrey Chon, Pete Chiappetta, Anthony Tittanegro, and Andrew Lary. A Kinberg Genre and Complete Fiction production in association with Domain Entertainment, the film is presented by Paramount Pictures.

“The Running Man” marks Wright’s return to large-scale filmmaking after 2021’s “Last Night in Soho,” merging his stylistic precision and dark wit with one of King’s most prescient works — a story about spectacle, control, and a culture that can’t look away.

“The Running Man” opens November 14, 2025, in theaters worldwide.
